As season eleven of “American Idol” begins, what has happened with the top Idols from season 10?
Teenage country boy Scotty McCreery took home the top prize and is the first artist to see success with his debut album since season seven winner David Cook. McCreery’s album “Clear as Day” debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard Country Album chart. Since topping the chart the album has sold nearly 900,000 copies and was certified Gold some six months after release. His first two singles rose to the top 25 on the Country singles chart. McCreery is set to open for Brad Paisley and The Band Perry on tour.
Fellow teen country singer and runner up Lauren Alaina saw her album “wildflower” debut at number five on the Billboard Album Chart. She has sold 228,000 copies since the October release. Her first two singles have reach the top 40. Lauren is opening for country star Jason Aldean on tour.
Idol’s resident metal singer James Durbin released his debut album “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster” last November and has sold 81,000 copies to date. Durbin married his girlfriend Heidi were married in an intimate outdoor ceremony on New Year’s Eve.
Chris Medina’s single “What are Words” did not fair well in the US but reached the number one spot in Norway and Sweden.
Idol finalists Haley Reinhart, Casey Abrams, Stefano Langone, and Pia Toscano have all signed record deals with albums set for release or planned for sometime during this year.
